Advertising (Hippy advertising)

We have been learning to advertise and persuade. This is my example of what I've learnt. I'm writing as a toy advertiser trying to convince my client to advertise his toy on TV. Hope you like it please publish

Well I think your wonderful toys will sell out faster then you can say “hot potato”. I mean what kid doesn't want a walkie talkie! Now, as a serious advertiser I would put this toy on the TV. It’s a fabulous way to get your toy out there. So please sit back while I explain why.

Down sides to the internet
On the internet there are many down sides. If your customer is watching your ad on Youtube they will just think it’s just another cheap company ad, and completely ignore it. If it’s a pop up ad, people will think it’s a virus and close the ad. Where as on TV people will take your ad more seriously and won't be able to skip it.

Safe and Fair
If you want fair and safe TV is definitely the way to go. Ads on the internet are no good for people looking at them. All those pop ups and gadgets on the internet can give your customers a virus. That won't look good for your product. If you put the ad on TV it’s just a pre recorded video and can’t do any harm to the viewers or their TV’s. TV is fair because of the law forced rules. Where as internet you can bend the rules to your advantage. And we at Colour Adverts do not support cheating.

TV will go further
More people watch TV than checking ads on the internet most sites have firewalls to block ads. On the TV there's nothing to stop people from watching your ads (unless it’s a pre recorded show). The best part of TV is when Kids watch TV in the morning the adults watch it to. Same with at night time. When people are sitting at the table watching the news they will see your ad.

So that's why I think you should go with TV. I hope you see things the same way.

Minion for a day

“Beeep, Beeep, Beep,” goes my alarm as slowly pull myself out of bed. My feet hit the floor and I start down the hall my arms dragging along the ground as I go. I can smell the strawberry jam on Mum’s toast. Walk through the door and see Mum and my brother and sister all sitting at the table already. “Come on sleepy head!” calls Mum as I stick my head in the cupboard “You’ve got school today!”
“Don’t remind me,” I say rolling my eyes. We have a test today and I really really don’t want to do it. You see I was behind on my work and couldn't afford to miss any time. Having a test subtracted about 30 mins of my precious writing time. I was really getting into my writing it was about the amazing sausage and his side kick ninja potato, any way back to the test. I really don’t need the extra pressure.
“Come on Elijah!” Mum groans as slowly pour my corn flakes into the bowl.

After breakfast I'm in a better mood. I get my jobs done extra fast. My plan is to get to school really early and finish my work before the test. As I walk out the door I see a billboard it reads: ‘Hire a minion. get yours today for only $5.99 CALL 87455469 NOW!’ all of a sudden I have an idea. I rush back down the driveway. I run into the kitchen and grab the phone. “Hello Minion company... yes I’d like one Minion.”

In no time at all a truck backs down the drive. The door opens and out comes one round yellow thing wearing coveralls and goggles. It had one eye and was very short. “O allo,” It said.
“Um... Hi?” I reply “What's your name?”
“Ehhh Bob,” it says.
“Oh um I’m, ahhh Elijah. Umm can you do maths?”
“Yaa.”
“Writing?”
“Yaa.”
“Realy?!”
“Ahh yep.”
Yes I was doing it. I finally had a way to get my test and my stuff done. I shoved the minion in my backpack and ran to school.

When we arrived I took off my bag and pulled Bob out. “Ok Bob,” I say “I need you to do this work for me.”
“Ehh Ok,” Bob replies.
“Right see you back here after lunch.”

When I got back to the toilets after lunch instead of seeing Bob with my finished work I saw my Teacher. “Oh no,” I thought.
“Eh he,” Bob said nervously waving at me.
“Come with me Casson,” she said. I gulped
When we got into the office I got a good telling off. Luckily Mrs Apple let me off the hock but she said she won't be so kind if she catches me again. So I had to say goodbye to Bob, at least I got my work finished. On the way home I saw another Minion sign “Get your minion today it does all your chores”. A smile slowly spread across my face.

Optimist Yachting Final post

17/9/14
Dear Diary, the yachting today was AWESOME!  Got to go solo yachting and man did I go FAST. Since I was by my self I could just relax. Everyone that went passed thought I looked pretty chilled out. I had my feet hang’n out the sides and my hands behind my back. Then all of a sudden Jaidyn came along and.... BAM. My boat almost tips “Crazy driver I say”. It was soooo fun!

Kayaking was hard. We had to paddle against a very strong current. Matilda and Kyra pass me whenever I have a brake so I had to try and keep going. And MAN! it was soooo tiring.

18/9/14
Dear Diary, today we had to get the paddles out for a short time but we quickly got back to sailing. We came third in a race round the boa's and third in a race to the island and back. I also got to go for a bit of solo yacht and I got to jump out! The water was freezing! And I had to kick back to shore because i couldn't get in back in.

Any way tomorrow we might not be going yachting because of the wind. So just in case Good bye.

19/9/14

Dear Diary, today was the last and best day yet. I went yachting with Jaidyn. It was fun  at first but then Jaidyn go to carried away with tricks and.... we capsized. Jaidyn, Jaidyn, Jaidyn what were you thinking. “Oh fill the boat boat with water we’ll be fine” yeah right! anyway it was pretty funny.

At kayaking we went right out into the mouth of the harbour and man it was wavy. I went out on my nese. Dad was there and he kept trying to tip me. I got away from him and as soon as I did I heard a splash I turn around there’s Dad sitting in the water. Karma.

Till next time diary, you're friend, Elijah.

Optimist Yachting Reflection

Something I was pleased with was how confident I was
because I wasn’t expecting to be that way.
I really enjoyed Yachting because I got to go really fast

Something I found hard was kayaking against the wind

Something that made me think was which way I should go, in optimist yachting, to catch the wind.

Production: Retell of the Legend of The Seven Whales

The Legend Of The Seven Whales

Long ago in Maori times there lived a powerful Tohunga. He was the master of seven giant whales. Those whales set out each day to collect information and news for the mighty Tohunga. each whale had to be out at sun rise. The names of the whales were Tahuturia, Tukituki, Korito, Onepoto, Iwetia and their baby Brother Hikinui.

Every day the whales would travel to many different parts of the ocean but each one had it’s favourite. Tahuturia talked to the orcas. TakiTaki chatted with the dolphins. Korito loved to hang out with the sharks. Onepoto had sword fights with the sword fish. Iwetia liked to listen to the dozy John Dory. And baby Hikinui just floated around in shallows doing absolutely nothing.

One day Hikinui relaxed so much that he couldn’t get to sleep. He kept jumping up and down and being as loud as ever. This made the other whales angry so they told to be quiet and go to sleep.

In the morning when the other whales set out Hikinui stayed behind because he had finally fallen asleep. The other Whales had just left their sleeping spot when they realized Hikinui hadn't come with them. All of a sudden the loud voice the Tohunga thunder across the ocean. “Curse you stupid whales!” he cried “you have failed your purpose. Now I shall curse you all”. And with that he turned them all into hills!! These days they are known as the hills of Wairoa. And baby Hikinui is still fast asleep and won’t be waking up anytime soon.

Yachting Diary

15/9/14
Dear Diary, I’m back again and no we’re not doing another production. IT’S YACHTING WEEK!

Today is our first day of Optimist Yachting. We’re heading down to Pandora pond after morning tea and I can’t wait! Some people look a bit nervous but not me.

We go on the yacht first and it’s so much fun. My yachting buddy Jacob has never done this before so sometimes I’m basically solo yachting. I don’t blame him though it is sort of hard your first go.

Kayaking is fun to but to be honest even though I really like kayaking I enjoyed yachting a tense bit more.

16/9/14
Dear Diary, Today we went kayaking first and it was pretty fun we joined all the kayaks
together, then went for a paddle then we had a race. I won the race and now Miss Hill owes me a chocolate fish.

There was no wind for yachting so we had to get out the paddles and row around the pond. We had to try and collect blocks of wood Mr M had left floating in the pond. We got none but other people were getting tons. So we pretended we were pirates and tried to hijack people, but of course it didn’t work.

Production is over!!

4/9/14
Dear Diary, this is my last entry. I will really miss writing to you. Anyway the final night went very well and I was relieved that it was finally over. It’s been fun doing this but for the final time I have to say good bye. This is your friend Elijah. See you later.

Reflection for the Production Journey Through The Legends

Something I was pleased with was my performance because I did better than I expected.
I really enjoyed learning how to be slow and loud with my lines  because I was quiet and fast when we started.

Something I found hard was not falling asleep during the show because I was REALLY tired.
Something that made me think was being louder.
Something I want to get better at is my actions.

My favourite part of the production was getting to watch the other performances and then showing them mine.

My best bit of feedback for the production was from Mum . She said to me that “She was really pleased with how I did and that she was amazed!”

Poem: A Friend...

That's right! Poems are back! This poem is called A Friend... If you haven't figured out all ready.

Original by Trevor Millum:

A Friend...
A friend is someone who borrows your ball
And returns it to you later in the day;
Who will lend their newest pens - and will play
Your games. Who’ll come around to your house
  and call
For you in rain as well as when it’s fine;
Who’ll listen to your secrets, share your fears,
lend a shoulder when your eyes are full of tears
And won’t divide things into ‘yours’ and ‘mine’.
A friend will peel the plaster gently off your cut
And a friend won’t say ‘Yuk!’. A friend laughs at your jokes
When others just go ‘Eh?’; who likes you but
Will tell you when you’re wrong; who strokes
Your favourite pet in spite of all the fleas -
Who knows your family but, when invited, says
  ‘Yes, please!’

Trevor Millum

New and improved version by Me!:

A Friend...
...is someone who hangs out with you all day
even when theres nothing to do.
A friend is someone who comes to your house
and always asks before using your stuff.
A person who’ll will do all your dares
even if they really don’t want to.
Someone that doesn’t make fun of you.
A friend is someone who will help you when you're hurt
even if it’s not that bad.
Someone who shares with you, stands by you and sits next to you. A person who likes the same sort of things as you.
A friend is someone you will know for the rest of your life

Production Diary: entry 12

3/9/14

Dear Diary, sorry I haven’t wrote in a while but I just keep forgetting! Anyway tonight is the last night of the production and I’m sort of sad and sort of happy that it’s finally over. It’s sad because I’ve been having fun doing the production. But happy because I’ll wont have to go to bed at 9:15 at night! I’ll tell you more later.

Production Diary: Entry 9, 10, 11

26/8/14
Dear Diary, today we had the first dress rehearsal. It was really fun! And some of the costumes from the other legends looked AWESOME! Ezra looked really cool with his moko on.

27/8/14
Dear Diary, we performed in front of the junior school today. I think they really enjoyed it, because there was a lot of laughing.

Today we also had the smoke machine back to. It was really cool disappearing into the fog and coming back out again as a hill.

Miss Hill thought we did really good and gave us all ice blocks after the show.

28/8/14
Dear Diary, last night we had our first show! It was just like the show we performed to the juniors but at night. We got lots of claps and everyone really enjoyed it.

A photo of the seven whales.

Production Diary: Entry 7,8

22/8/14
Dear Diary, another practice in the hall today. Nothing new.

25/8/14
Dear Diary, I got pulled away from practice today. My sister was going to the dentist. But why did I need to go? Dad told me it was so he could kill two birds with one stone and take us both. So I believed him.

Well that was a mistake! Turns out it was all a trick. We left us as soon as Bella was finished, without me getting a check up. Turns out we going to get my 11 year old shots! Great just what I needed.

The shot didn’t hurt too much, but Dad totally owes me a pony!

Production Diary: Entry 4,5 and 6

19/8/14

Dear Diary, we are are better again today. But always room for improvement.

20/8/14

Dear Diary, we had another practice in the hall today. We did it with our props and it was really fun. Tomorrow we are performing to the rest of the Nga Raku Nui.

21/8/14

Dear Diary, today we preformed in front of Nga Raku Nui. I think our group did pretty well. It was boring wait for our turn to show though.

Production Diary: entry 3

15/8/14

Dear Diary, we were in the hall today. We practiced on the stage and we were pretty good for our first try. We had Mr Moriarty’s son Leo,watching us but he fell asleep in the first five minutes. I’m not sure if it was because he thought it was boring or if it was because he was tired (Leo is only a toddler) and just finished his milk. But I’m sure he would have enjoyed it so lets just say it was the tired thing. Anyway thanks for listening.

Production Diary: Entry 2

14/8/14`

Dear Diary, Me again. We went back to production practice again. We’re really good now!Everyone is much louder and almost everyone has got their voice at the right speed. I’m starting to get use to the position I need to be in on stage. And everything is starting to get much more relaxing. Any way no complaints today and hopefully not for the rest of the production. Bye Diary.

Production Diary: Entery One

12/8/14

Dear Diary, lately we have been doing production practice and, oh let me introduce myself. My name is Elijah and lately I have been practicing for my school production, The Journey Through The Legends. There are four legends in the production and my legend is called The Seven Whales. It is about seven whales who work for a great Tohunga (a very skilled and powerful man). They have to gather news from the oceans and bring it back to him. My Role is to be one of those whales. I play Onepoto the whale that likes to head north and talk to the sword fish. In the play I have a very lazy young brother who sleeps in, and gets us turned into the hills of Wairoa for being late.

When we started me and the other whales, I must admit, were pretty bad, but now we’re much better. We are starting to get our timing right and we sound and look much better (most of us). And everyone else is improving lots to. but we still need to work on being quiet while we are waiting back stage. I think that personally I've improved to. I feel much more confident walking on the stage, then I did when we first started.

The Little Lizard's Sadness

In my reading group, the Jedi  Knights I have just read a book called The Little Lizard's Sadness. It is a traditional  Vietnamese legend about a rich man and a beggar here is my retelling.

A long time ago in Vietnam there was a very Rich Man who had invented a game. He loved to play this game with other rich men in the country because he would win almost every time.
This is how the game was played. One man would say I have 50 gold bars and the second man would say I to have 50 gold bars and no one would win. But if the first man said I have 10 cows and the second man said I only have 5 cows the first man would win.

One day a stranger in ragged old clothes came to see the man. "What are you doing here?" the Rich Man asked.
"I have come to play your game," he said. The Rich Man thought that this man looked to poor to play this game but he let him play anyway.

"Where do you come from? What is your occupation?" asked the Rich Man.
"What does it matter to you? Lets just play," the stranger replied.
"But," said the stranger "I have some Ideas to add, to this game of yours,"
"What sort of Ideas?"
"Well I think the winner should get a prize," replied the stranger "So if I win, I would like in return all your belongings and if you win you can have all my belongings and myself, as your personal slave."
"Well... What sort of thing do you have to offer me?"
"You will be amazed at what I own," answered he.
"Very well then. Lets begin!"
"Oh and one more thing," said the stranger "I would like to go first"
"Well I guess that will be ok,?" the Rich Man replied.

"Ok" said the stranger removing something from his belt and holding it out "Do you have one of these?" In his hand was a chipped up, old coconut cup. The Rich Man thought that for sure he had a cup like that and told his men to find it. But the men did not find it. All the coconut cups were new not old. And smooth, not chipped.

The Stranger had won and was very pleased. In the next few months the stranger gave away all his new belongings to the poor people of the country. When he had given away all his riches, he once again set off, and was never seen again.

As for the Rich Man, he turned into a lizard. These days he crawls around on the ground crying "tsst tsst" in self pitty saying "tsst tsst what a pity."

And that is the story of the little lizard and why lizards say tsst tsst.
